SALZBURG

It’s highly recommended to visit Love Lock Bridge while exploring Salzburg, taking you over the Salzach river from the modern “New Salzburg” to the old city on the other side of the bridge. Some of these buildings go back to the 7th century!

And of course if you’re in the birthplace of the most talented musician who ever lived, you better believe you should visit his childhood home while strolling the streets. Mozart’s house is right along the strip on the way to Love Lock Bridge. Many good restaurants along the way!

We were excited to start the tour going up into the Alps, and Salzburg gives you the best view of them because this city sits at the foothills of the Alps which starts here in Austria and ends in France! For the best view, take the funicular train up to the top of Hohensalzburg fortress. Great views from both sides!

Hohensalzburg Fortress

And then after lunch on top of the fortress we came down to St. Peter’s Abbey to view the amazing artwork. It’s one thing seeing pictures, but actually stepping inside these churches and seeing the paintings on the ceiling, I felt like I was back in time. No one can prepare you for the absolute beauty of this city.

And of course if you’re a Sound of Music fan, you must stop by Mirabell Palace where they filmed the Do-Re-Mi sequence as well as Nonnberg Abbey, where the kids went to visit Maria when she left, but the nun wouldn’t let them in. Also the scene where the nuns helped Maria and the Von Trapp family escape from the Nazis!!!

We also made a trip to the Eagle’s Nest, which is a 20 minute bus ride from Salzburg. My mom wanted to bring a photo of her Uncle Steve, who was shot down over Belgium while flying a B-1 7, making bombing runs over Germany. Thanks to guys like him, we can stand here now and say Thank You, and we made it…

EAGLE’S NEST

So many things go through your mind while sitting atop the Eagle’s Nest. The views here are out of this world, and the history of this place is even more out of this world. The air is thin up here and we had a great time enjoying all the fresh air and beautiful wildlife around this area

After the Eagle’s Nest we headed down the mountain and had lunch in the town of Berchtesgaden and then went to explore the salt mines. Definitely visit this town if you’re ever in Salzburg, it is surrounded by the most beautiful mountains, and of course we were there only a few weeks before Oktoberfest, so we had to partake in the activities! Cheers!

Berchtesgaden

We then took a drive to the King’s Lake, which is not far from the town of Berchtesgaden, and worth visiting for the amazing views and nature paths around the lake!

Back to Salzburg for our last night before leaving with our group in the morning for Italy! Farewell to Obersalzburg and Berchtesgaden, I hope we meet again…
